MY VERSION OF CRACK
Soundtrack: Les Poissions - The Chef
One of the things that I can always eat is "Pain Au Chocolat". I can hover down 2 of these without blinking. Gracefully, of course.
It is hard to find good authentic French bakeries in Bangkok. The local produce like the milk and butter makes it taste different than the ones from France.
Being a bit of a pastry snob, I steer clear of pain au choc from general supermarkets.
I've selected 3 of the well respected bakeries in Bangkok and did a little tasting session.

The Mandarin Oriental
VERDICT: You can really taste the coco in the chocolate. For me, this was the highlight.
The pastry was so-so.
Folies Bangkok
VERDICT: The cheapest of the 3, this pain au chocolat was my least favourite. Folies have been in business in Thailand for over 20 years, I remember eating it at school and I swear it tasted better.
Le Notre
VERDICT: This one for me was the winner. The pastry was buttery and sweet with a faint hint of saltiness which I find so tasty. My giant disappointment however was, traditionally, pain au chocolat has 2 bars of chocolate inside where as this roll only had one. Boo.
