THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT

Soundtrack: The New Radicals - You Get What You Give

I am just going to ignore the fact that I have not updated this blog for many moons and just write as if nothing happened.

Lately I have been getting more and more affirmations that I am officially old because my teenage decade is now a the new trend.
All I could think of is: This must be what my dad felt when I told him I was into platforms and if he still had his Beatles and Hendrix vinyls.

My friends and I attended a one-hall-one-night music festival type event where they got rock bands from the 90s era to perform. The headliner was the band Suede, which I was incredibly excited about even if I only knew one song.
They came out rocking in very age appropriate attires. White shirt and fitted blue jeans with a brown leather belt. It really did look like Brett dropped by Bangkok to do a gig on his way to pick up his kids from the park on a sunny British summer afternoon.
Seriously.

I actually prefered the mini moshpit-without-the-moshing better. It was just outside the concert hall where the a DJ played tunes like Trouble by Shampoo and Chumbawamba alikes.

I appreciated the effort and the opportunity to reminisce some good times but once it hit 10pm, the old ladies had to retire to a quiet bar for a quick night cap before heading home and wash our hair.

Love,

BEST WAY TO WAKE UP

A BIKE RIDE A DAY KEEPS THE SHRINK AWAY

Been trying to make health and exercise a priority in my routine by tricking my fried-chicken brain into loving cycling. By loving the wind on my face and fresh park air, the leg pain and heat becomes secondary thus exercising!

Lumpini Park is the biggest public park in the inner city of Bangkok. At around 6 to 7 am the elderly arrive at congregate for some light exercise and a morning party.
Tai chi enthusiasts can be seen around the park. Some even have team shirts : )

Something I find very sweet and classically romantic is the paddle boat. There is a dock full of them. Take that special someone for a ride and recite Rumi poems... or wear a giant hat and pack a fan cause sweat patches are just not vogue.

Of course the corner with the most people is where the food court is. Just in case you forgot that you are in Asia, this confirms it.

A fantastic way to clear your mind and a perfect way to wake up. You should try it.

Witness the fitness!

OBSESSION OF THE WEEK

ALL HAIL KITTY

My slight(!) obsession with a certain cartoon cat is truly getting out of hand.
I first started by trying to keep it cool and quirky so I still have that edge but it has officially crossed over to my daily life.

Was never a fan as a child, when it was let's say more appropriate.

It has become a cult like following. Mariah Carey famously has a Hello Kitty room in one of her mansions.

There are all kinds of versions of this kitty from Darth Kitty to Robocop Kitty.
There is even a Hello Kitty (((vviibbrraattoorr))) which is marketed as a "personal massage wand". Yup.

I myself have a shelf, a corner of the shelf! Dedicated to it and it is ever growing. And no I don't have the above tool. Tsk.

Here are some random facts about this Kitty

  • Hello Kitty's favorite snack is her mum's apple pie, ideally "served with honey vanilla ice cream topped with cookie crunch," according to Hello Kitty Hello Everything
  • Hello Kitty's favorite bedtime story is Mysterious Forest.
  • An inside source reveals that employees of the Sanrio store in New York's Times Square must address the company mascot, "Hello, Hello Kitty," and under no circumstances just, "Hello, Kitty."
  • Five couples get married each year at Tokyo's Sanrio theme park Puroland.
  • Sociologists note that Hello Kitty has both benefited from and helped fuel a cultural shift in Japan during the past generation that has encouraged greater spending and relaxation.
  • In 1984, UNICEF named Hello Kitty children's ambassador of the organization's American arm. In 1994, she became ambassador of the Japanese branch as well.

Hello Kitty teeth anyone?

Yea...

Hello Kitty engine oil... fast as a (cartoon) cat?

I think him and I will be best friends

Hello Kitty assault riffle. I want.

Hello Kitty Burqa. Might switch religion right about now.

Happy Kitty!

TRUE LOVE

TRUE LOVE

Three little birds - sang by yours truly

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When
something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable
treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re
quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before
become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way
to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find
strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”

MUSIC OF THE WEEK

THAI FUNK

Soundtrack: Love Hot (I Feel Good Cover) - Meesak Nakaratch - Thai Funk ZudRangMa

Someone once asked if I'd rather be blind or deaf. I didn't even need a second to answer, my definite answer is I'd rather be blind.
Maybe it is something music lovers have in common but I'll be happy living in my own imagination with melodies in my ears.
There goes my romantic bs again...

Thai funk or country music has many different genre and sub genre but the 2 main ones are 'Look Tung' and 'Mor Lam'.
The singing style is very hard to master. It is a part of a culture that perhaps if you are not from it, you will not sound authentic.

I had the pleasure of seeing DAO BAN DON live. It was actually the persona and stage presence he gave out that I was captivated with. Obviously, he is a legend.

Camera in hand and trying to take shots, I lived my fantasy of being the band's (un)official photographer. Except that it's a country music gig than the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Must admit I was not totally familiar with his music but I was surrounded by hardcore fans and the atmosphere was so fun.

I was totally impressed with his attire. Cowboy buckle and hat with paisley dinner jacket and indigo denim. Decorated with a large diamond encrusted gold Rolex, what else right?!

A night to remember. I can cross off: Thai country singer legend off of my list of who to see before I die, or before they die rather.

Who's on your list?
